Up until now, Renault has had two major success stories in India – the Kwid and the Duster. The Triber, which received a price list only in August this year, has the potential to join that list too. However, it is too soon for even Renault to go smug on it. Painting the non-rosy part of the picture were products like the Pulse, Scala and the Lodgy. It has been a while since we bid goodbye to the former two. And now, Renault is inviting condolences for the Ertiga-rival. Yes, the Lodgy has gone for good.

Renault says that since it doesn’t plan to sell diesel-fed models in the BS6 (Bharat Stage 6) era, upgrading the Lodgy made no sense. The MPV’s production came to a halt months ago, and as far as its stock is concerned, there is none left. What that also means is that the list of variants of the Captur and the Duster will only have petrol power. As for the Kwid and the Triber, both models, along with the SUVs, will comply with the stricter emission norms before we enter the next fiscal year.

The newest Renault of the lot, the Triber, will become BS6-compliant by the end of January 2020. Later, and as promised, the sub-4 metre MPV will receive AMT-equipped variants as well. Over 20,000 units of the Triber have already found takers in the country. In 2020, Renault aims to sell at least 40,000 units of the versatile model.

Apart from that, Renault is also gearing up to join the hotly-contested sub-4 metre SUV space by the end of next year. Although the company hasn’t confirmed any details about it, the SUV is likely to share most of the stuff with the Triber. Once launched, the sub-compact SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

The shift from BSIV to BS6 will see Renault inject some price adjustment. Since only petrol-powered models will remain, the upward revision of prices will not be as significant as the diesel-fed models would have received.
