With the mid-life update, the Renault Kwid comes with a few cosmetic changes inside and outside as well as more creature comforts. On the outside, it gets a new, chrome-draped front grille, new decals on the side mouldings and the mid-level (RXL) variants get fog lamps, front power window and remote central locking as standard. Inside the cabin, the refreshed Renault Kwid will be offered with a rear armrest (only with Kwid Climber), an additional 12-volt socket, chrome accents on the gear knob and a rear camera.
All variants of the refreshed Kwid will come with rear ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor), which allows the rear seat belt to freely extend and retract with occupant movement, yet locks the belt during a sudden stop or impact. All in all, the last two features have upped the safety quotient of the pocket-friendly hatchback. Renault has also added an additional feature to the AMT-equipped Kwid and it is called Traffic Assist. It helps the car to crawl forward in slow moving traffic and also prevents it from rolling back on slopes. This ability of an automatic gearbox is popularly known as the creep function.
Mechanically, there are no changes to report. The refreshed Renault Kwid can be had with either a 0.8-litre engine or a 1.0-litre mill. While the former produces 54PS/72Nm, the latter generates 68PS/91Nm. Gearbox choices – the less powerful Kwid comes with only a 5-speed manual transmission, whereas the 1.0-litre variants can be had with a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) as well.
As far as colour options for the exterior are concerned, there are six to choose from – Fiery Red, Planet Grey, Moonlight Silver, Ice Cool White, Outback Bronze and Electric Blue (only Climber). Renault says that bookings for the refreshed hatch are now open across all its dealerships in the country.
