Saar: Whether or not they come to India in the same state remains the key question.
Datsun has launched the refreshed Go and Go+ models in Indonesia and while they look similar to the ones they will replace, they pack a lot of newnesses. Both these models are expected to cross the ocean and land on our shores too. But, what all will make it to India as part their kit remains the key question. Meanwhile, let’s see what Indonesia gets.
The mid-life updates for both the Go and Go+ feature sporty front and rear bumpers, a restyled front grille, new LED DRLs, OVRMs with integrated turn indicators and 14-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, the rear windshield finally comes with a washer and a wiper. Inside the cabin, Datsun has taken the liberty to redesign the dashboard layout to accommodate rectangular AC vents and a 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The instrument cluster has been to the drawing board too.
In terms of powertrain options, almost everything remains the same as before. We’ll get to that “almost” part in a moment. Both cars are powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. But this time around (this is the “almost” part) the company is offering a CVT (continuously variable transmission) unit. Sadly, it is on offer with the Datsun Go only. When opted for, the mated engine is tuned to produce 10PS more, with no change in torque, than the manual variants. For the record, all manual variants for Go and Go+ have 68PS/104Nm on tap.
With all this on offer, prices for the Datsun Go start at Rs 4.91 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 6.78 lakh. On the other hand, the seven-seater Datsun Go+ starts at Rs 5.36 lakh and tops out at Rs 6.39 lakh (all prices are calculated at current exchange rates). In comparison, prices for the pre-facelift Datsun Go in India range between Rs 3.35 – 4.37 lakh and for Go+ vary between Rs 3.91 – 5.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
