At the launch event of the Porsche Macan facelift in India, the company confirmed that the launch of the Cayenne Coupé is also in the pipeline. That’s what we reported earlier this month. However, there’s another model which will launch in India after the Cayenne Coupé. Which one? The Taycan. And, it should be with us in less than a year’s time. The Taycan is Porsche’s first-ever pure-electric model and it is destined to make a global debut during the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019.
Although the Taycan hasn’t entered production yet and its exact specifications haven’t surfaced, Porsche has already received interest, with a registration fee of 2,500 euros, from more than 20,000 customers. The model, which was earlier known as the Mission E Concept, will also form the base of the Mission E Cross Turismo. It will be built alongside the Taycan and become Porsche’s second pure-electric offering.
So, what do we know about Taycan’s power-plant? It will house two electric motors, one for each axle. The total output will be more than 600hp and, as is the case with electric cars, a lot of torque. Porsche claims that the Taycan can hit 100kmph and 200kmph from a standstill in less than 3.5 seconds and under 12 seconds, respectively. Put simply, the Taycan will out-accelerate the Porsche Panamera Turbo!
The exact size of the battery hasn’t been revealed yet but it will be a lithium-ion pack. Porsche says 4-volts are packed into each of the cells in an 800-volt battery. On a full charge, the Porsche Taycan will be able to travel over 500km. Obviously, the electrical configuration will support fast charging and, as per the company, the Taycan will be able to replenish its battery from zero to 80 per cent in 15 minutes. 15 MINUTES!
