Petrol-Powered Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Becomes BSVI-Compliant
Maruti Suzuki has upgraded the Ertiga MPV to comply with the stricter Bharat Stage VI (BSVI) emission norms. It becomes the sixth model from India’s largest carmaker, after the Baleno, Alto, Wagon R, Swift and Dzire, to receive BSVI compliance. And just like those before, only the petrol-powered variants of the MPV have been upgraded. That has resulted in a price hike across petrol variants, which now range between Rs 7.55 lakh and Rs 10.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Why only petrol variants? Well, that’s because Maruti Suzuki will not be upgrading any of its diesel engines to comply with BSVI standards. That said, if demand arises for diesel-fed models beyond March 31, 2020, the 1.5-litre diesel mill will be kept on standby. As far as the petrol engine in the Ertiga is concerned, it is a 1.5-litre unit which produces 103hp/138Nm and comes coupled with a mild-hybrid system. The engine can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Ertiga is handsomely equipped too. As standard, the MPV gets 60:40 split second-row seat, a coloured MID TFT with a trip computer, air-cooled cup holders, all four power windows, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and BA, ISOFIX anchorages, high-speed warning and projector headlamps. The other list of features includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, automatic climate control, push-button start/stop and a 6-speaker sound system.
Earlier this month, Maruti Suzuki introduced two CNG variants of the Ertiga. Based on the VXI trim, one is devised as a personal vehicle while the other, Tour M CNG, is for commercial use. The carmaker also confirmed that the Ertiga is not only the bestselling MPV in its segment but also in India.
