Saar: It slots, rather nicely, between the standard GT Roadster and the GT C Roadster.
If you are interested in cars but in a more sensible, dignified way, your interest ends here. But if you are a hardcore car enthusiast, the acronym AMG must have been enough to give you goosebumps. If not, the details of the bewitching droptop surely will. Mercedes-Benz has unveiled another topless variant of the AMG GT. It is called the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster.
Mercedes’ fanatics must have figured this one out already that the GT S Roadster is the third droptop variant in the GT family. Based on what it’s packing, it sits, rather comfortably, between the standard GT Roadster and the GT C Roadster. On the whole, the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster takes the member count of the elite AMG GT family to 12. How? Well, in its global portfolio, the GT has four two-door coupes, three Roadsters, two customer sports racing cars and three four-door coupes. Let’s unravel how the AMG GT S Roadster slots itself between the other two Roadsters.

No points for guessing, the GT S Roadster is powered by the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that does duty in its siblings. The transmission, a 7-speed AMG-spec automatic unit, is also the same. What is different though is what the combination of those two deliver. The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster has 522PS/670Nm on tap. Predictably, that’s more than what the standard GT Roadster has but less than the GT C Roadster. For math lovers, it is 46PS/40Nm more than the former variant and 35PS/10Nm less than the latter.
As you’d expect, the performance figures have a similar story to tell. The Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster completes can complete the 0-100kmph sprint in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 308kmph. While the former is 0.2 faster and 0.1 seconds slower than the standard and the GT C Roadster respectively, the latter is 6kmph more and 8kmph less.

Even in terms of features, the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster delivers a good balance between the other two variants. For instance, both the GT S Roadster and the GT C Roadster feature performance exhaust system, five drive modes, electronically-controlled rear-axle limited slip differential and the same brake disc composites for the front and rear wheels. However, like the standard GT Roadster, the GT S Roadster misses out on rear wheel steering and the choice of Nappa leather upholstery.
If that’s a bit poor for your liking, Mercedes-Benz will be more than happy to offer you a range of optional extras for the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster. The list includes AMG trim elements finished in matt silver glass-fibre, carbon-fibre and matt carbon-fibre. You can also get the sport seats, which are as standard available in black Artico man-made leather or Dinmica microfibre, in a range of Nappa leather finishes. For the interior upholstery, you can also opt for AMG Piano Lacquer Interior package which gives the centre console surround, air vent bezels and trim strips in the door armrests a piano lacquer look. A range of optional extras is also available for the exterior and performance tuning, including the Night package, Carbon-Fibre package and Dynamic Plus package.
The Germans say that the Mercedes-AMG GT S Roadster is now available for booking, while the market launch will commence from July 2018.
