There is no doubt that the Mahindra XUV500 has been facing the heat from potent competitors such as the Jeep Compass and the Tata Harrier. In order to enhance its charm a bit more, Mahindra has added the convenience of Apple CarPlay in its mid-size SUV. However, the said feature is reserved for only the range-topping W 11 (O) trim, which is available with both the diesel-manual and diesel-automatic options.

It is surprising to see that Mahindra is offering Apple CarPlay in just one trim level. Android Auto, on the other hand, is available right from W7 trim. The latter is also available in the sole petrol-powered G variant of the Mahindra XUV500. The control centre for both smartphone integration platforms is a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which also takes voice commands and reads out SMS. Those who already own any of the W11 (O) variants, can reach out to their nearest authorised dealership and get the infotainment system upgraded for Apple CarPlay.

Launched first in 2011, the XUV500 has been one of the bestselling models for the homegrown automaker. In May this year, the SUV received a new entry-level W3 trim. As before, the Mahindra XUV500 is available with petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 2.2-litre unit which puts out 140PS/320Nm and is available only with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel unit, on the other hand, has the same displacement but produces 155PS/360Nm. It can be had with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT.

The price range of diesel-fed variants starts at Rs 12.31 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 18.63 lakh. The petrol-powered G AT variant is priced at Rs 16.10 lakh. Apart from competing with the Tata Harrier (Rs 13-16.76 lakh) and the Jeep Compass (Rs 15.60-26.8 lakh), the XUV500 also locks horns with the MG Hector (Rs 12.18-16.88 lakh).
