Mahindra Inks Two MoUs With Maharashtra Govt For EV Production And Deployment
Saar: Apart from investing Rs 500 crore to further develop its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Mahindra will also deploy 1,000 EVs in the next one year across several cities in Maharashtra.
With World Environment Day fast approaching, which is on June 5, 2018, every major carmaker is waking up to get noticed. Recently, we learnt that Maruti Suzuki will team up with SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) and run a 10-day service camp across all its authorised dealerships. Earlier today, Tata Motors signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Maharashtra to promote e-mobility and handed over five Tata Tigor EVs to EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd).
Now, it is Mahindra that has inked two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the same western state of India to further its next phase of expansion in EVs (electric vehicles) and becoming completely electric ready. The first of the two MoUs revolves around Mahindra making an additional investment of Rs 500 crore in its Chakan plant to manufacture EVs, e-motor, controller, battery pack and other EV components for multiple mobility applications related to battery pack assembly of EVs.
Install EV Charging Points Every 3Km In Cities With 10 Lakh Plus Population, Proposes Centre
As per the second MoU, Mahindra will explore strategic alliances with different stakeholders to deploy 1,000 EVs across key cities in the state of Maharashtra over the next 1 year. For this to become a reality, both the automaker and the state government will work closely with various fleet partners, logistics companies and taxi aggregators.
The stepping stone for this deployment phase will be planted when Mahindra provides 25 e2oPlus hatchbacks to the self-driven car platform, Zoomcar, in Mumbai. This is expected to happen in the coming week, on or before the World Environment Day. Additionally, Mahindra will also join forces with technology partners for the motor controller, power electronics, battery pack, drivetrain and other parts and components, which are currently being imported from other parts of the globe.
The Scorpio-maker also confirmed that it will supply EV battery pack, motors and controllers, power electronics, drivetrain, other parts/components of EVs, battery assembly and EVs to MVML (Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Limited) and M&M (Mahindra & Mahindra) plants and other Group companies as well as to other customers.
