Did you know that over the first nine months of the current fiscal year (Apr-Dec 2019), Mahindra retailed nearly 1.54 lakh passenger vehicles? That figure helped cement the carmaker’s position as the third-largest in the country and meant that it sold almost 54 per cent more passenger vehicles than the fourth-ranked Tata Motors. Among Mahindra’s good performers were the Scorpio and the XUV300. Mahindra has made some changes to both those models without making a noise. Obviously!

First up, the Scorpio. In November 2017, Mahindra introduced an updated version of the SUV. Amongst the updates was the option of 138bhp/320Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. That setup was and still is on offer in S7, S9 and S11 trim levels. Buyers could also choose the lesser powerful 118bhp/280Nm version of the same engine, with a 5-speed MT, in the S7 form. That configuration, however, is no longer part of the brochure. Mahindra’s official website still has the price (Rs 13.30 lakh) of the S7 (118bhp) variant. That will stay only until stocks last. For the record, the S7 (138bhp) carries a price tag of Rs 13.61 lakh. Here’s the complete price list:

Over to the XUV300. Mahindra launched the sub-4 metre SUV in February last year. In July, the option of an AMT came into the picture. The month of November saw Mahindra initiate a voluntary recall for its latest subcompact SUV, while in the following month, BS6-compliant (Bharat Stage 6) variants joined the list. The chances are that it was then when Mahindra took the liberty to tinker with the features list. What are they? The W6 AMT variant, which earlier came with ESP with roll-over mitigation and hill start assist, now does not. Not that the absence of those widgets will make much difference to buyers, but their exclusion was still worth mentioning. Here’s how the XUV300’s price list looks like:

The Scorpio and the XUV300, the Marazzo, Thar, Alturas G4 and the XUV500 will soon gain BS6-ready diesel engines. When that happens, prices for all those models will go up substantially.
