Homegrown automaker Mahindra has announced that the Bolero Power+ is now BSVI (Bharat Stage VI) ready. The sub-4 metre SUV has received a certification from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) that confirms the claim. That being said, the BSVI-compliant Bolero Power+ is still not up for grabs. Mahindra will launch it in early 2020, before the mandatory shift to BSVI vehicles kicks in on April 1.
Launched in September 2016, the Bolero Power+ is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine which pumps out 70hp of power and 195Nm of torque. However, it remains to be seen if the transition from BSIV to BSVI has had any effect on those numbers. The only transmission option available is a 5-speed manual. In BSIV form, the claimed mileage is 16.5kmpl. Based on the trend observed, the mileage figure in BSVI form is likely to drop slightly.
To comply with the new safety norms, the Mahindra Bolero Power+ has also received a bump in its safety kit. Features like an airbag, ABS, rear parking sensors, speed alert warning and seatbelt reminder for front seats are now part of the standard safety kit. Needless to say, the addition of these features across the Bolero Power+ range will have an effect on the prices. As of now, prices for the Mahindra Bolero Power+ start from Rs 7.49 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 8.86 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Apart from the Bolero Power+, Mahindra has two more offerings in the sub-4 metre SUV space – the TUV300 and the XUV300. Both those vehicles, Marazzo and the XUV500 will also be upgraded to meet the stricter emission norms. Earlier this month, the top-spec XUV500 received an updated infotainment system to support smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay. The company will also be introducing all-new generations of the Thar and the Scorpio SUVs in months to come.
