Saar: It will be e2o Plus hatchback that will be offered as a self-driving rental car.
Zoomcar in Delhi will soon offer the option of self-driving a Mahindra e2o Plus. According to a PTI report, Mahindra Electric has joined hands with Zoomcar wherein the automaker will provide 100 e2o Plus hatchbacks to the self-drive rental major. The homegrown automaker reportedly said that this agreement is aimed at promoting shared and cleaner mobility. Why Delhi? Well, the city’s alarming levels of air pollution is courtesy, to some extend, of fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
While announcing this partnership, Mahesh Babu, CEO, Mahindra Electric, reportedly said, “Mahindra’s commitment towards electric mobility continues. Our aim is to make EVs more mass adaptable in India in public transport, shared mobility and personal vehicles.” At the event, Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, said that the future of transportation belongs to a shared, connected and zero-waste setup. While relevant bodies, including Niti Aayog, are working relentlessly with the government to drive into this new era of mobility, the cleaning of Delhi’s air quality will not be possible without a proper collaboration with the private sector.
He further added, “In Niti Aayog, we have provided charging stations as the need for the government is to ensure that there are a vast number of charging stations all over and we are in fact moving towards having all-electric vehicles.”
For all 100 units of the e2o Plus, Zoomcar will receive customised EV financing from Mahindra’s in-house financing body. Other all-electric vehicles in Mahindra’s product portfolio include the e-Verito sedan, e-Supro van and eAlfa Mini three-wheeler. Soon, the electric KUV100 will join that list. Presently, Mahindra is the only carmaker in India that has a range of all-electric vehicles on sale. Mahindra’s counterpart, Tata Motors, will soon become the second homegrown automotive player to offer an all-electric passenger vehicle – the Tigor Electric.
