Saar: Compared to the respective Limited (O) variant, the new range-topper is approximately Rs 91,000 dearer.
On September 17, 2018, we reported that Jeep will be launching a new range-topping trim for the Compass in India. Frankly, we weren’t expecting that to happen so soon! Well, it has and the Jeep Compass Limited Plus is now on sale. Prices for the new fully-loaded trim start at Rs 21.08 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 22.85 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). Before we get to what all it offers over and above the former range-topping trim, Limited (O), let’s list out the variant-wise pricing:
Jeep Compass Limited Plus Prices (ex-showroom Delhi)
Variant | Limited Plus | Limited (O) |
---|---|---|
2.0D 4x2 | Rs 21,07,900 | Rs 20,16,300 |
1.4MAIR DDCT | Rs 21,41,600 | Rs 20,50,000 |
2.0D 4x4 | Rs 22,85,400 | Rs 21,94,000 |
As you can see, the price difference between the Limited (O) and Limited Plus variants is approximately Rs 91,000. So, what are you paying the extra amount for? On the outside, the Limited Plus trim gets you a panoramic sunroof and new, two-tone alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the new range-topping trim comes with six airbags instead of the standard two, a bigger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, powered front seats with memory function and tan leather upholstery for the seats. You also get automatic headlamps and wipers as well as an auto-dimming IRVM (inner rear-view mirror). If you ask us, the sub-Rs 1 lakh premium for the new trim is justified.
There are no mechanical changes to report. If you go with the petrol-fed model, you will have to make do with a turbocharged 1.4-litre mill that’s good for 163PS/250Nm. Like in the Limited (O) trim, the petrol engine can only be had with a 7-speed automatic transmission in the new-range topping trim. On the diesel front, the 2.0-litre turbocharged motor, which puts out 173PS/350Nm, is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission. Unlike the petrol engine, the diesel motor is available with a 4×4 system.
With the new trim, Jeep has certainly upped the Compass’ charm. It is now much better equipped to take on the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500. Dare we say, the Jeep Compass Limited Plus is actually extremely good value when you compare it with the Volkswagen Tiguan, which is essentially a similar package but with a considerably higher price tag. Earlier this month, Jeep also announced the prices for the Black Pack kit, which is exclusively available for the Compass.
