Say hello to the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios! Priced from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom India), it looks like the love-child of the new Santro and the already existing Grand i10. Speaking of which, the Nios is not a replacement of the Grand i10. Both will co-exist, with the latter catering the market between Santro and Nios.
The Nios is available in four trim levels – Era, Magna, Sportz (also available in Dual Tone) and Asta. A total of 10 variants are on offer, covering four engine-transmission combinations. As far as engines are concerned, they are from the Grand i10. However, the petrol engine in the Grand i10 Nios is BSVI-compliant. That makes the newcomer the first Hyundai India model to gain the BSVI badge.
Over to the specifications. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 82hp/113Nm, whereas the 1.2-litre diesel mill is tuned for 75hp/190Nm. As standard, both engines come coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, they can also be had with an AMT (automated manual transmission). This gives birth to the second punch line – the Grand i10 Nios becomes the first hatchback from Hyundai India to feature a diesel-auto combination. Mileage figures are as follows:
- Petrol-MT: 20.7kmpl
- Petrol-AMT: 20.5kmpl
- Diesel-MT: 26.2kmpl
- Diesel-AMT: 26.2kmpl
Hyundai has packed the Grand i10 Nios with an array of features inside and out. The list includes 15-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control and push-button start-stop. If all that doesn’t float your boat, the hatchback also packs all-four power windows, a wireless mobile charger, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, manual headlamp levelling, a rear-view camera and multifunction steering wheel. The standard safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, high-speed warning and seatbelt reminders for front occupants.
The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS is on offer in eight different exterior shades – six single-tone and two dual-tone. While the former category includes Fiery Red, Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey, Aqua Teal and Alpha Blue, the latter one has Polar White with black roof and Aqua Teal with black roof. The Grand i10 Nios also introduces the concept of variable basic warranty. Based on the consumer’s need, it can be a 3 year/1,00,000km cover, a 4 years/50,000km cover or a 5 years/40,000km cover.
Hyundai officially started accepting bookings for the Grand i10 Nios from August 7, 2019, with the minimum token amount set at Rs 11,000. In India, Hyundai’s latest offering is a rival to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo. Here’s the complete introductory price list:
