The Indian arm of the South Korean carmaker Hyundai has announced that it will be revising the prices of all its models from January 2019. The price tags will see an upward bump by up to Rs 30,000. The company, in an official statement, said that the same would be carried out to compensate for the increased input costs.
Hyundai Motor India Pvt. Ltd. has had a busy 2018. In January, it introduced the 1.4-litre engine option for the Verna, followed by the refreshed Elite i20 during the 2018 Auto Expo. In May, the company launched the mid-life update of the Creta, which has been the undisputed king of its segment. Around the same time, Hyundai also introduced the CVT-equipped variant of the Elite i20 hatchback.
After launching the Anniversary Edition of the Verna in September this year, Hyundai brought the iconic Santro nameplate back in the following month. The reincarnated brand has received an overwhelming response. In just over a month after its launch, the Santro had bagged over 38,500 bookings and received more than 2.11 lakh queries. Apart from product launches, the carmaker also kept itself busy by rejigging the models in terms of equipment and variants list. The same was carried out for the Grand i10, Elantra, Verna and Xcent among others.
Next year, Hyundai will launch its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) in India. Dubbed as the Kona, it will be brought in via the CBU route. To start with, Hyundai will sell the Kona EV in 15 cities in India. Based on how it is received, the company could very well upgrade its plant Chennai to assemble it locally. The Kona EV is one of the eight products that Hyundai aims to launch in India by 2020.
