Of late, the sub-4 metre SUV game has been breaching new levels of heated confrontations. In order to get a piece of that action, Honda Cars India has introduced a new diesel-only variant of the WR-V. Tagged simply as the V and priced at Rs 9.95 lakh, it slots between the S and VX trims of the range. Compared to diesel-fed S and VX trims, the new one costs Rs 70,000 more and Rs 40,000 less, respectively.
Apart from that, Honda has also revamped the list of features in S and VX trims. The S trim now also comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, fog lamps, speed-sensing auto door lock, retractable key, one-touch up/down with pinch guard for driver’s side power window, vanity mirrors with lid for front occupants, rear parking sensors, high-speed warning and front passenger seatbelt reminder.
Over to the VX trim. It now gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel, speed-sensing auto door lock, vanity mirrors with lid for front occupants, rear parking sensors, high-speed warning and front passenger seatbelt reminder. As far as the list of features on the newly introduced V trim is concerned, it gets everything the S trim gets plus power-folding ORVMs with turn indicators, rear wiper with washer, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built navigation and support for voice recognition, rear-view camera with guidelines and push-button start/stop.
Mechanically, the Honda WR-V remains unaltered. The 1.2-litre petrol, which can only be had with a 5-speed manual transmission, pumps out 90PS/110Nm. The 1.5-litre diesel is good for 100PS/200Nm and is available with only a 6-speed manual gearbox. As far as pricing is concerned, the Honda WR-V starts at Rs 8.15 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 10.35 lakh. In India, Honda’s smallest SUV competes with the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Ford Ecosport and the Mahindra XUV300.
