Saar: The full-blown concept, or what BMW likes to call “Vision Vehicle”, will be revealed later this year.

Of late, BMW has been more than just busy in telling us all about the iNEXT. Until today, all we knew was that the vehicle in question will enter production in the year 2021 and that it will showcase BMW’s next-generation of electrified vehicles. Now though, BMW has given us the first glimpse of what the iNEXT will look like. Okay, this is just a sketch and if we had to guess, it looks very much like a crossover. But we won’t have to guess for long, as BMW has promised that the “Vision Vehicle”, a fancy way of saying the concept vehicle, will be revealed later this year.

BMW Reveals Wireless EV Charging Tech

Addressing the shareholders at the 98th Annual General Meeting of BMW AG, Harald Krüger, chairman of the board of management of BMW AG, gave us an overview of what to expect from the BMW iNEXT project. He said:

“The iNEXT project is our building kit for the future. It will benefit the entire company and all our brands. For the first time, we are combining all key technologies for future mobility in one vehicle. The iNEXT is fully electric, fully connected and also offers highly automated driving. Today, we gave our shareholders a very first glimpse of the design of the BMW iNEXT. Later this year, we will be presenting the BMW iNEXT as a Vision Vehicle.”

During this meeting, Krüger also revealed that the iNEXT will be produced at its Dingolfing plant, located in southern Bavaria, Germany. It was also reiterated that it will enter production after rigorous testing in several conditions, in the year 2021. Another aspect that Krüger touched upon was that going forward, all pure electric BMW models will come with the “i” badge. They will have fifth-generation battery technology and will be able to deliver a range of around 700km on a single charge. As far as autonomous driving tests are concerned, they will begin at BMW’s recently opened new campus, located outside Munich.
