Saar: If the leak is to be believed, the BMW M5 will pack more punch than the Mercedes-AMG E63 S.
If there’s one car that has, for generations, delivered the perfect blend of a sensible saloon and a sports car, it would have to be the BMW M3. The BMW M5, on the other hand, has always delivered the same package but on a larger scale. The latest BMW M5, which is not even a year old since its unveiling in August last year, will soon be offered with a Competition Package. BMW fanatics would immediately relate those two words with more power, less weight and a bigger price tag.
That’s exactly what the BMW M5 Competition Package will bring into our lives. BMWBLOG has reported that details of the M5 Competition Package have leaked and if the details are to be believed, it will surely give the Mercedes-AMG E63 S a run for its money. As per the blog, the details were actually leaked by an Australian buyer who has already booked one of these.
As per him, the 4.4-litre V8 for the BMW M5 Competition Package has been tinkered with to deliver an extra 25PS and 50Nm over the standard M5. The resultant power figures stand at 625PS/750Nm. Math lovers and car nutters will immediately point out that’s 13PS more but 100Nm less than the Mercedes-AMG E63 S, which by the way was launched in India earlier today. 0-100kmph time with the Competition Package is said to have dropped by a tenth of a second to 3.3 seconds. That’s the same as the AMG powered E63.
Apart from the retuned engine, the BMW M5 Competition Package will, as per the leaked information, get a new sports exhaust. While it is destined to shout a lot more than the one in the standard BMW M5, it isn’t the titanium M Performance exhaust. That’s weird. The suspension is sharper to react and lower too. In terms of looks, the BMW M5 Competition Package will get bespoke all0y-wheels, black badging and kidney grille, and illuminated M5 Competition Package door sills.
Clearly, the M5 Competition Package is coming. When? Only BMW and God know! But one thing is for sure – with the Competition Package, the M5 will not only outrun and outperform the car it is based on but also cost a considerable amount more. For the record, the BMW M5 in India has a sticker price of Rs 1.44 crore. If BMW decides to bring the harder, tauter M5 to India as well, we don’t see it wearing a price tag less than Rs 1.8 crore.
