Are you one of the many who have been waiting for some quantifiable action concerning the Tata Harrier? Good news! Tata Motors has started accepting bookings for its upcoming flagship product. You can reserve one with a minimum token amount of Rs 30,000, all of which will be totally refundable in case you want to drop out. The booking can be done either online or by visiting any of the authorised Tata Motors dealerships across the country. The homegrown automaker will launch the Harrier early next year.

Here’s what Mayank Pareek, president, passenger vehicle business unit, Tata Motors Ltd., said in an official release:

“Since its showcase as a concept at the Auto Expo 2018, the Harrier has made huge waves amongst the SUV lovers. With the rising excitement and consistent demand from our discerning customers to book the Harrier at the earliest and be amongst the early ones to receive deliveries, we have taken a conscious decision to open bookings in the festive season. With Turnaround 2.0, we have already begun our journey towards winning sustainably in the passenger vehicle business and we are confident that with the introduction of this new class-leading SUV, we will only soar higher.”

The Tata Harrier will be a 5-seat SUV underpinned by a monocoque chassis derived from the D8 architecture that has done duty in Land Rover products. Tata Motors calls it as the Omega platform. The company says that it has tested the upcoming product over 2.2 million kilometres, covering varied climatic conditions and terrains. Last week, Tata Motors revealed some details about the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that will power the Harrier. The SUV will also become the first product in Tata Motors’ portfolio to flaunt the ‘Impact 2.0’ design language.

As far as its place in the market is concerned, Tata Motors will position it against the likes of the Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. Price wise, expect the Tata Harrier to start around the range-topping variants of the Hexa and end around Rs 1-2 lakh below the top-spec Compass.
