Saar: The mildly-modded executive sedan is expected to launch in India sometime next year.
Meet the refreshed Audi A4 sedan. And let’s get one thing clear from the get-go, the changes aren’t worth straining your eyeballs. Or, in milder words, the changes are quite subtle and no-one, apart from Audi fanatics, will be able to differentiate between the facelift and the outgoing version.
What are the changes? Well, Audi has slapped on a redesigned front bumper which features pentagonal air inlets on either side. Those inlets house “U” shaped fog lamp enclosures, which are accompanied by a honeycomb-patterned finish. Audi says that dedicated openings from the air inlets guide some of the air into the wheel housings, where it flows past the wheels to improve the overall aerodynamics.
Audi’s signature Singleframe grille remains the centre of attraction. But different variants get different finishes to the hexagonal front end. For instance, in the S line exterior package, the grille gets horizontal slats to deliver a 3D effect. The rear bumper has also received some minute changes. Two trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes replace the round ones in the outgoing model. And the diffuser area is now smaller and sportier. As far as the choice of wheel sizes is concerned, they are available from 16- to 19-inches and all have been redesigned for the facelift A4.
With the facelift, Audi will offer the A4 with S line competition package for the first time ever. That package will include a new exterior paint option called Turbo Blue. Other features will include red brake callipers, 19-inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, LED headlights and the four-rings logo in the lower section of the rear doors finished in black or silver (based on the exterior paint colour). Inside the cabin, the S line competition takes the standard S line black interior package and replaces some of the interior panels with RS carbon inlays, black partial leather sports seats and a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
The Audi A4 facelift will first go on sale in its home country, Germany, as a 2019 model. Audi has confirmed that pre-sales will begin in the third quarter of this year. In India, the Audi A4 facelift is expected by early next year. Once it does land on our shores, it will renew its rivalry with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Jaguar XE. By that time, we should also be expecting Volvo to bring its all-new S60 to the party and Mercedes-Benz India would have launched the refreshed C-Class too. Exciting times ahead!
