Saar: The new baby Aston Martin was revealed in November last year and becomes the second car in the company’s ‘Second Century Plan’.
Aston Martin unveiled the brand new Vantage in November last year. Back then it also revealed prices for UK, Germany and the USA. If you were one of the filthy-rich ones to order one of these, here’s some good news. The new Aston Martin has finally entered production and deliveries will commence by the end of this month. It has joined the Rapide S and the DB11 family at Aston Martin production plant in Gaydon, England.
The new Aston Martin Vantage is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that produces 510PS of power and 685Nm of torque. Paired to the power-plant is an 8-speed automatic transmission which feeds the oomph to the rear wheels only. Aston Martin claims that the Vantage can complete the 0-100kmph run in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 314kmph. In comparison, the Porsche 911 GT3 (with PDK gearbox) can do the former in 3.4 seconds and achieve 320kmph in the latter category. This is despite the Porsche having 10PS/225Nm less power.
The baby Aston Martin becomes the second car, after the DB11, to fall in the company’s ‘Second Century Plan’. If you haven’t heard about this, allow us to oblige. When Aston Martin unveiled the DB11 in 2016, it also announced that a total of seven cars will be launched in the next seven years. With the DB11 and Vantage taking the first two spots, they will be followed by the replacement of the Vanquish – the DBS Superleggera. Post that, Aston Martin will launch an SUV in 2019, a mid-engine supercar in 2020 and two Lagonda models by 2022. Do the math and it’ll add up to seven models in just about seven years.
Along the way, Aston Martin will introduce limited-run models such as the Valkyrie. Variant additions will carry on too, with the planned Rapide E.
