It’s been a while since we learnt Tata Motors is working on a seven-seat version of the Harrier. Well, here it is. Dubbed as the Buzzard specifically for the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, it will go on to become the new range-topper in Tata Motors’ portfolio. When? By the end of this year. The company has confirmed that the production name of the H7X will be revealed closer to the launch date.

Math lovers, break out your calculators because we have some numbers to play with. The Tata H7X (Buzzard) measures 4,661mm in length, 1,894mm in width and 1,786mm in height. Its wheelbase stretches to 2,741mm, which is the same as the Harrier’s. The duo also has the same width but the H7X is 63mm longer and 80mm taller. That’s to accommodate an extra row of seats. The extra height is also courtesy of 18-inch wheels, which are a size bigger than the ones on the Harrier.

Tata Motors hasn’t released any images for the interior but the look and feel are likely to be the same the Harrier. Under the bonnet will be a diesel engine. Which one? The same 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel mill that powers the Harrier. However, the FCA-sourced engine is expected to be in a higher state of tune. Why? The H7X will be heavier on its toes and will need some extra grunt to eliminate any dreary driving dynamics. Around 30PS bump in power and a similar rise in torque should suffice.

As far as the list of features goes, it should match up with the Harrier. So, gizmos like a semi-digital instrument cluster, a 9-speaker sound system mated to an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, six airbags, terrain response modes and Xenon HID projector headlamps should make the cut. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of the MG Hector and the Mahindra XUV500. Depending on the pricing, it might cannibalise the Hexa as well.
